The New Year is fast approaching. A time when we look to the future and do our best to make decisions that will ensure the new year is better than the one that came before it. The same goes for your business. You will be looking to make decisions now to set your business up for the best 2026 possible.

A key factor for any business is getting its marketing right.

But what’s the right marketing choice to win attention in 2026? As we watch newer marketing channels flounder in an increasingly fractured media landscape and flashy marketing trends grab headlines for a month, then disappear without ever being heard from again, we submit that the humble leaflet is the solution to bringing customers to your business in 2026.

Why Choose Leaflets

Leaflet distribution is a tried and true marketing channel that has stood the test of time. Despite some relegating mail to a thing of the past, leaflets have proved to be one of the most effective marketing channels of 2025. A trend that shows no sign of changing in 2026.

The data shows that leaflet marketing works. An amazing 67% of people have made a purchase based on a leaflet they received through the door. That means that an incredible two-thirds of people who had never heard of a company before got a leaflet through the door and went on to make a purchase!

Leaflets are also fantastic at grabbing potential customers’ attention. Each leaflet dropped through the letterbox is engaged with for an average of 56 seconds. That’s almost one whole minute of a potential customer’s attention. Engagement from social media adverts, by contrast, is measured in fractions of a second, with the average ad receiving just 0.7 seconds of attention.

And leaflets have a lasting impact. 45% of the UK keep leaflets in their homes for future reference, where they can be seen again and again, by the original recipient as well as friends and family. Each leaflet you drop through a door is seen or interacted with by at least three different people.

Other Marketing Channels Are In Decline

Plenty of new marketing channels have come along over the years, proudly declaring that they were the future. Some have come out of nowhere, garnered a lot of media attention and disappeared just as quickly. When was the last time you heard someone seriously use the word “Metaverse”?

Others have stuck around a little longer and become part of most businesses’ marketing mix. But a lot of these seemingly more modern marketing channels have seen a precipitous decline in their effectiveness over recent years.

Social Media is the channel that many businesses turn to first, because it is trendy, low effort and is perceived to be low cost (although this isn’t really the case after you dig into it!). But, even as many businesses stubbornly stick to social media as their primary method of advertising, the customers they’re trying to reach turn away from it!

A recent survey by Hootsuite found that 59% of people think there’s too much advertising on social media and are “fed up” with digital advertising generally. And it’s driving users away, Statista found that consumers are spending 20% less time on social media compared with five years ago.

As users are driven away from social media platforms, they are being replaced by ‘bots’, computer programs designed to behave like real users. And the social media platforms’ algorithms can’t tell the difference! So they’re showing your ads to these bots, bots who are never going to buy your product, and charging you every time! It’s estimated that only 17% of paid digital ads are seen by a real human being.

Even TV advertising, once the gold standard of prestige advertising, has seen a dramatic fall in its effectiveness as the media landscape fragments and consumers abandon linear TV. Since 2015, the number of impressions generated by TV advertising has fallen by a staggering 73%.

Mail Is Going From Strength To Strength

Meanwhile, as these other channels flounder, leaflet distribution goes from strength to strength. Leaflet distribution is not only bucking the trend of declining marketing channel effectiveness, but the data also shows that mail marketing has actually become more effective in recent years.

The number of consumer actions prompted by receiving a leaflet through the door reached record highs in 2025, continuing a steady five-year upwards trend, with 9.2% of leaflets dropped now prompting recipients to take some kind of action towards purchase. The return on investment businesses see from leaflet distribution has increased by an average of 24% every year since 2021.

These numbers suggest that leaflet distribution is directly benefiting from consumers’ turn away from digital advertising. As consumers become fed up and annoyed with the deluge of digital ads all over the internet, they become comparatively receptive to mail advertising.

This trend is particularly pronounced among younger consumers who see leaflets as a novelty and appreciate the authenticity that leaflets bring. The data shows that leaflet distribution is now the most effective way to reach consumers under 35, who respond better to leaflet distribution over any other form of advertising.

What This Means For You

Smart marketers look at the trends. They ignore the hype and look at the data to see which marketing channels are losing consumer attention and which are capturing more and more of it. In terms of number of impressions, quality of impressions and whether those impressions drive consumers to take action in the real world or online the too often ignored leaflet is beating the competition.

So, as you look ahead to 2026 and what decisions make the most sense to set up your business for a prosperous future, consider that, increasingly, leaflet distribution is the most effective way to bring consumer attention to what your business has to offer.
