Working together for Safety, Justice and Reassurance
Safer Neighbourhoods’ is a professional and informative newsletter produced by Hertfordshire Constabulary, distributed across the County on an annual basis. The newsletter is a vital communication to residents, an important vehicle for boosting awareness among local communities of the work being done locally to keep people safe from crime and anti-social behaviour. Crucially, it reports back on how the police are tackling the issues voiced by local people as safety concerns within their neighbourhood.
With central government pushing local authorities to raise awareness of local policing, Safer Neighbourhoods provides local knowledge and updates on what the police are doing to tackle local issues, with the emphasis on community involvement and feedback. The newsletter introduces the police officers responsible for neighbourhood policing – so residents can put a face to a name, and provides crime prevention advice and important contact numbers, such as helplines for reporting domestic violence, drug abuse and anti-social behaviour. Since their onset in 2010, the aim of the community newsletter has been to raise residents’ satisfaction and confidence levels in local policing, empowering local community groups and local residents to take a dynamic role and get involved with safety initiatives such as ‘Community Speedwatch’ and Neighbourhood Watch schemes.
For the past three years, DOR-2-DOR has been the distribution partner working with Hertfordshire Constabulary to ensure the Safer Neighbourhoods newsletters reach local residents in a timely fashion. 93 different editions of the publication are distributed across 93 individual neighbourhoods/electoral wards, encompassing 97 towns and villages across Hertfordshire – no mean feat. In 2011, a total of 430,000 publications were distributed countywide. The success of this campaign requires precision planning, team building and project management. This is where Dor-2-Dor’s extensive experience and their sophisticated bespoke project management software ‘Deliver IT have come into their own.
